Andalucia

History

ClicSalud+ serves as a virtual health management platform for residents with public health coverage in Andalusia, offering access to personal health information and the ability to manage appointments online (Servicio Andaluz de Salud, n.d). The platform ensures secure data transmission and user authentication through advanced technologies. It launched in 2002 (originally under the name InterSAS).

ClicSalud+ integrates with DIRAYA, the regional system consolidating all essential patient information into a unified profile. This profile - including administrative details, appointments, and clinical records - is accessible at any point of care, whether in an emergency room or hospital setting.

The integration of ClicSalud+ with these systems ensures that the data provided is up-to-date and that any user updates are promptly reflected across all associated information systems.

Access to these services requires user authentication. While some services can be accessed by providing personal details, others—due to their sensitive nature—require the use of a digital certificate.

Features

ClicSalud+ currently offers a range of features that enable patients to log in to access their health records, manage appointments, and request prescriptions. Features include (Servicio Andaluz de Salud, n.d):

  • Health agenda:

    • Request primary care appointments

    • Reschedule or cancel certain types of upcoming appointments, as well as view a list of past ones

    • Check position on the surgical waiting list

  • Health:

    • View information on medical conditions and allergies

    • Access COVID-19 certificates

    • Review medication and prescriptions

    • Access clinical reports, such as admission records, hospitalisations, outpatient consultations, and discharge reports

    • View analytical test results, such as blood tests

    • Access imaging tests (note: patients can see the images, but not the clinician’s written report)

    • View vaccine records from 2010 onwards

    • Check temporary disability information, particularly related to work incapacity

  • Formalities:

    • Request a new health card in the event of deterioration, loss, or theft

    • Request a temporary displacement (e.g., if moving to a different Andalusian municipality, patients can choose a primary care centre and professional in the new location)

    • Choose their GP

Challenges and areas for improvement

While ClicSalud+ offers valuable services, it faces certain limitations (PKB interviews, 2024):

  • Limited Data Source: only from public healthcare providers and General Practitioners (GPs), so excluding other sources, such as private healthcare providers

  • Restricted Data Input: Patients cannot directly input their own health data, relying entirely on information provided by healthcare professionals

  • Lack of Information Sharing Mechanism: There is no mechanism for patients to share their health information with caregivers or family members
