Diagnosis

Diagnosis

Diagnosis data for a patient can be sent using the ADT^28 or A31 HL7 messages.

The message will need to contain the standard MSH and PID segments as well as the DG1 (see A28 scope). The content of the PID segment will be determined by whether you are sending allergy data to an existing patient record on PKB (in which case you should supply as a minimum the patient identifier(s) and date of birth) or for a new patient record in which case you’ll need to fully populate the PID as per your defined scope. When unsure if the data is for a new or existing record it’s best to populate the PID with at least the identifiers, date of birth, given name, surname and sex at birth.

It’s important to note that when PKB receives diagnosis data for a patient record, we will replace any previous diagnosis data you have sent with the new content. So you must ensure you always include any diagnosis history that is required within your message.

It is acceptable to send demographics, allergy, medication and diagnosis data within the same HL7 message for a patient
