Feature updates
1. Better visibility for appointment status
We’ve improved how appointment statuses are displayed within the appointment view. If the status is now anything but booked, it will appear in bold red text, matching the styling used on the main appointments page. This enhancement makes it easier for users to quickly identify important status changes
2. New element whitelisted to support right-to-left languages in plans
Clinical teams can now use the ‘rtl’ html element to format text from right to left in plans. This enables plans to be formatted correctly when right-to-left languages, such as Arabic, appear on the plan.
3. Support for Manitoba PHIN number
We now support the Manitoba PHIN number as an identifier. To send this identifier in your HL7 feed, please see our developer documentation for the required assigning authority and type code.

Feature updates
1. Single Point of Contact information for appointments
We have introduced a new ‘Single Point of Contact’ field for appointments so organisations can identify who the patient should contact regarding their appointment.
'Single Point of Contact' information can be added to appointments via HL7. This information can be supplied when creating the appointment (SIU S12) or updating it (SIU S13 or S14) in the SCH segment by specifying the following components:
13.4 email address
13.7 phone number (+ symbol allowed for international codes)
13.8 phone extension number
13.9 any additional text information

Bug fixes
1. Patient banner display issue for non-latin languages
We have resolved an issue which prevented the patient banner showing for professionals when a non-latin language was selected.
2. Care plan validation
We have resolved an issue which prevented some non-latin language characters from being used the ‘Action plan’ field of a care plan. The validation applied to this field will now accept any Unicode character.
3. Removal of SIN number as Canadian national identifier
We have removed support for the SIN number as the national identifier for Canada as this number is not being used by our customers in Canada.

Feature updates
1. Better PDF experience on devices
We’ve introduced a new PDF file viewer to improve how PDFs are displayed inline, especially on smaller screens, for a smoother and more readable experience.
2. GP data consent update
The screen where patients can consent to retrieve their GP data has been updated to clearly ask for explicit consent from patients who wish to have PKB retrieve their GP data. This screen also now includes a direct link to our updated Privacy Notice for review.
Bug fixes
1. Number of responses on the Questionnaires page
We have resolved an issue which was causing the ‘Responses’ column on the Questionnaires page in the Professional and Coordinator views to display as 0, even if the questionnaire had responses. The field will now display the correct number of responses for that questionnaire.
2. fhirUser scope
We've fixed a bug that forced patients to repeatedly grant access to their health apps using the fhirUser scope every time the connection expired. Now, authorised applications can automatically refresh their access token, ensuring smooth and continuous access to FHIR data without disruptive, repeated login prompts.

New features
1. Support for fhirUser and openid scopes
We now support the ‘fhirUser’ scope alongside ‘openid’ in our authorization service, fully aligning with SMART on FHIR standards. This means that when a patient grants an app permission, the application can now receive a direct reference to the patient's FHIR resource within the identity token, allowing it to easily identify the user and immediately construct requests for their specific data. For more information please see Code Grant.
Feature updates
1. Updated help text on Test Result pages
We’ve updated the guidance shown on the Test Results page for patients and carers. The advice now also reminds users that any adjustments to treatment should only be made based on medical advice.
2. Clinical trials banner added to Medicines page
If a patient is eligible for a clinical trial, they will now also see a banner about the trial on the Medicines page so that more patients have the chance to see it. Read more about how PKB supports clinical trials in our manual.
3. Updated help text on Allergies page
We’ve updated the guidance shown on the ‘Allergies’ page for patients and carers. The advice now reminds users that any adjustments to treatment should only be made based on medical advice.
4. Team setting to allow deletion of HL7/FHIR data
We have introduced a new team setting that allows the deletion of HL7/FHIR data from a patient’s record when the data was sent from the team’s own organisation. When this setting is enabled, professionals can delete these data entries directly from a patient’s record. By default, this feature is turned off for all teams. If you would like it enabled for your team please contact our support team: support@patientsknowbest.com.
5. Updates to advanced questionnaire message threads
New messages will now be added to threads in the professional and patient’s inbox when a patient responds to an advanced questionnaire, making it easier for professionals to manage their questionnaire-related inbox items. When a patient answers a questionnaire or amends their answers, the thread will revert to unread and a new message will be added to the thread.
Bug fixes
1. Fix for incorrect GP appointment attendees (EMIS)
GP appointments from EMIS Web will now display the correct healthcare professional's name as a participant within the appointment description. Previously, the incorrect practitioner name might have appeared due to an issue with identifiers for practitioner records.
Technical improvements
We have updated the configuration of the authentication server used by NHS App Wayfinder to improve system reliability and ensure continued secure access. This change does not affect user credentials or login behaviour but enhances backend performance and alignment with current security standards.

New features
1. Advanced questionnaires CSV export ‘table view’
We have updated the format of the CSV export for advanced questionnaires to the ‘table view’, which displays answers as one row per set of answers, rather than one row per question. This layout makes it much easier for clinical teams to read the exported answers directly from the export. For more information on the fields in the export, please see our manual page.
Feature updates
1. NHS login update
We’ve updated how Patients Know Best (PKB) works with NHS login to meet the latest NHS England standards. Previously, PKB automatically used the highest level of authentication by default. This level is now explicitly included in the NHS login request when you login using NHS login for greater transparency and compliance with updated NHS England standards.
If your NHS login account doesn’t meet the required level, you’ll see a message from NHS login explaining that you need to prove who you are for a higher level of authentication.
Bug fixes
1. Access log error
We’ve fixed an issue that caused an error message to appear in the Access Log when a user joined a clinical trial team and later updated the sharing settings (privacy flags) for that team. This error did not affect access or data sharing — it only appeared in the log view. The issue has now been resolved, and access logs will display correctly when users edit their sharing settings after joining a clinical trial team.
2. Carer email notifications for advanced questionnaires
We've fixed an issue so that carers will now always receive email notifications when a patient is sent an advanced questionnaire. Previously, carers didn't get these notifications if the patient didn't have an email address in their record.

Feature updates
1. Notification preferences header change
When a patient has turned off all notifications (using the “Do not contact” setting), the heading “Email notification preferences” will update to “Notification preferences” and the content on that page will now clearly reflect that status.
Bug fixes
1. HL7 patient identification processing
We've improved how we process Health Level Seven (HL7) messages.
Previously, if a single HL7 message contained multiple patient IDs within the PID.2 or PID.3 segments, only the first ID was processed, and all subsequent IDs were silently ignored.
With this update, we now process and validate all patient IDs provided within the PID.2 and PID.3 segments, ensuring that messages are correctly linked to an existing patient using any of the provided identifiers.
Technical improvements
1. Clinical trials banner added to Tests and Imaging pages
If a patient may be eligible for a clinical trial, they will now see a banner about the trial on the Tests and Imaging pages. We are adding the banner to multiple pages so that more patients have the chance to see it. Read more about how PKB supports clinical trials in our manual.
2. EMIS Web PFS API certificate update
We have updated the certificate for our EMIS Web Patient-Facing Services (PFS) API integration. This is a routine update, and will ensure our integration with the EMIS Web PFS API remains fully operational.
