Face To Face Registration Of Patients
What is One-to-One Registration
One-to-one registration involves a clinical or admin professional within the organisation supporting a patient with their registration. This can be done by adding an email to PKB or your PAS (if the HL7 add email feed is switched on), giving out QR codes to promote registration through NHS login/NHS app, and supporting a patient with the registration steps.
Why Register Patients This Way
Registering patients face-to-face is often the most effective approach because it allows them to engage directly with the organisation providing their care. Since many patients already receive care during these interactions, it’s an ideal time to introduce them to their PKB record. This helps patients understand the benefits of accessing their personal health data and clinical resources. The in-person setting also builds trust, reinforces the platform's legitimacy, and increases the likelihood of successful registration and engagement.
How to Register Patients
There are many effective ways to encourage patient registrations through one-to-one interactions.
Face-to-Face Registration Opportunities
In the Clinic
During appointments, clinicians can enter patient email addresses directly into PKB or the PAS system and encourage registration. This is an ideal time to explain the benefits of using PKB and to highlight any actions the care team would like the patient to take.
Pre/Post Appointment
Admin and reception staff can ask patients whether they have a PKB record. If not, they can input the patient’s email into PKB or PAS. This is a quick and effective way to get patients started on the registration process.
Volunteers
Support volunteers positioned throughout the organisation, such as at check-in points or outpatient clinics, can assist patients with registering via the NHS App. This is also an opportunity to show patients the details of their upcoming appointments or clinic follow-up letters they will receive through PKB.
On the Ward
Clinical staff, volunteers, or discharge coordinators can explain the benefits of PKB to inpatients and encourage them to register before discharge. Email addresses can be added directly to PKB or PAS so patients can view their discharge summaries or other digital care documents later.
Group Registration Opportunities
Group settings offer an excellent opportunity to encourage and assist multiple patients with registration at once while discussing the value of digitally accessing their health information.
